In Attendance of H.E. the President of General Authority for Civil Aviation Prince Sultan bin Salman launches “Sensory Room” Initiative for children with disabilities at King Khalid Airport

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, on Tuesday, launched the Sensory Room initiative for children with disabilities in the 5th Regional Travel Lounge at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a ceremony held on that occasion with the attendance of Abdulaziz bin Abdullah AlDuailej, Chairman of the General Authority for Civil Aviation, Nabeel Bin Abdullah AlJama, Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Support Services "Saudi Aramco," and Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah AlMaghlouth, CEO of Riyadh Airports, Their Highness, Excellencies, and a number of children with disabilities and their families.

During his speech on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony, HRH Prince Sultan praised the country's outstanding efforts in providing various services to individuals with disabilities, stressing the importance of the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques -May Allah Protect Him-, to support many national initiatives that serve members of that group.

He expressed his enjoyment at the launch of the KSCDR in collaboration with its partners Riyadh Airports and Saudi Aramco; this initiative aims to improve the travel experience for children with disabilities as well as their families through the capital's airport, noting the importance of airports being prepared and compatible with the needs of individuals with disabilities in all fields, which will enhance the opportunities to empower and integrate members of this group into society, hoping that the initiative will contribute to this.

Mohammed bin Abdullah AlMaghlouth said that Riyadh Airports are keen to provide various services through King Khalid International Airport in accordance with the highest international standards, to suit all members of society, and to work continuously to support initiatives that contribute to empowering and integrating individuals with disabilities and facilitating their experience at the airport, stressing his pride in partnering with the KSCDR and Saudi Aramco in implementing the initiative and that the company is constantly working to improve services for individuals with disabilities, hoping that this initiative will benefit child travelers and their families.

Project Manager Kholoud Ibrahim Al Shaya explained that the "Sensory Room" is a remarkably safe environment, controlled by the tools and devices available to stimulate the different senses of the individual: vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell, and can provide pleasure and relaxation for users, and the initiative was the first of its kind for children with disabilities at Middle East airports and was created as needed; child travelers with disabilities and their families faced difficulties and challenges while traveling through airports, and hoping that it would contribute to improving and facilitating their travel experience and their families.

She noted that the KSCDR and its partners implemented the initiative at two locations in Riyadh: King Khalid International Airport and King Fahd Medical City and that the possibility of implementing it in other public facilities are being considered, as needed.
