Sultan bin Salman Launches the Sensory Room Initiative for Children with Disabilities at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam

Tuesday, 14 October 2025

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR), inaugurated the Sensory Room Initiative to serve travelers with disabilities at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Matarat Holding; Mr. Raed bin Hassan Al-Idrissi, CEO of Matarat Holding; Eng. Mohammed bin Ali Al-Hasani, CEO of Dammam Airports Company; and Mr. Nabil bin Abdullah Al-Jama’, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Corporate Services at Saudi Aramco.

Prince Sultan bin Salman praised the King Salman Center for Disability Research and its partners for launching this distinguished initiative at King Fahd International Airport, following its first implementation at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in 2021. The initiative aims to improve the travel experience of persons with disabilities through airports.

His Royal Highness stated:

“We look forward—God willing—to inaugurating this initiative soon at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to serve travelers from this group.”

He commended the efforts of the Saudi government for its continuous support in developing specialized services for persons with disabilities across all sectors, reaffirming the commitment of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ government to supporting numerous national initiatives that serve this cause.

Mr. Nabil Al-Jama’ from Saudi Aramco said:

“Through our Citizenship Division, Saudi Aramco is keen to actively contribute to community development and human empowerment through a wide range of sustainable programs and initiatives. Establishing these sensory rooms aligns with our efforts to promote solidarity and inclusion within our society and beloved country.”

He added:

“We take pride in our partnership with the King Salman Center for Disability Research. This is the second project of its kind serving persons with disabilities, helping to empower and integrate them into society while providing a safe and inclusive environment that facilitates their lives and supports their families across all sectors.”

Eng. Mohammed Al-Hasani, CEO of Dammam Airports Company, emphasized that launching the sensory room at King Fahd International Airport marks a qualitative leap in services for travelers with disabilities and their families, highlighting that this initiative reflects Dammam Airports Company’s commitment to providing an inclusive and accessible travel environment for all members of society.

Mrs. Khulood Ibrahim Al-Shaye, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of KSCDR and Project Director, explained that this initiative enhances opportunities for empowering and integrating persons with disabilities into society and contributes to improving their travel experience. She added that the decision to expand the initiative to King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah came after observing the positive impact it had on travelers with disabilities and their families at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh over the past four years. She expressed her gratitude to Prince Sultan for his continuous support and close follow-up on the project’s implementation.

It is worth noting that Saudi Aramco, in collaboration with the King Salman Center for Disability Research and Riyadh Airports Company, contributed to establishing the first Sensory Room at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in 2021—the first of its kind in airports across the Middle East. The room aims to facilitate the travel experience for persons with disabilities and their families, helping them relax and enjoy their time in a safe and welcoming environment.
